The Kyoritsu 3127 is a professional level diagnostic 5kV digital insulation resistance tester, designed for high end testing of motors, transformers, switchgear and other equipment where a high voltage insulation test is required. Not only does the Kyoritsu 3127 perform standard insulation resistance tests with a voltages from 250V up to 5kV, but it also can undertake a range of diagnostic insulation tests, including polarisation index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), Dielectric Discharge(DD), Step Voltage (SV) and RAMP. These diagnostic tests can be performed in either Breakdown or Burn Mode. In addition to this full range of tests, the Kyoritsu 3127 also measures Capacitance and Leakage Current.
Housed in a hard field case, offering IP65 protection (with the lid closed), the Kyoritsu 3127 is a fully self-conatined set up with space for stowing of test leads and documentation. The field case offers robust protection from the environment and protects the meter from the day to day challenges of transportation to and from site.
A large back lit LCD display has a logical layout with all information referenced on the screen in both digital format for quick and easy referencing and an analogue style segmented bar graph offers the information in a traditional format, which also allows the user to visualise changing readings easily, and a built in memory allows the Kyoritsu 3127 to either save test results or automatically log every second. Saved data can be transferred to a PC for analysis and live data can be shown in real time either to a PC or an Android device via wireless Bluetooth via the KEW Smart App, available on Google Play Store. The Kyoritsu 3127 is powered by a rechargeable battery for portable and easy use.
A unique feature of the Kyoritsu 3127 is the high 5mA short circuit test current that is utilised in insulation resistance measurements, which makes the measurement quicker, even for objects with capacitive components. A low pass filter function reduces variations in readings, due to external influences, such as power lines, making it possible to use the Kyoritsu 3127 even in electrically noisy environments to obtain stable and meaningful readings. A live circuit warning will alert the user with both visual and audible signals to prevent connection to a live circuit and when an insulation resistance test is performed on a capacitive load, the electrical charges are automatically discharged after measuring and the discharge can be checked on the instrument's voltage monitor.
